No sooner had Kiseena returned to the South Wall and told Habasi of this one's wish to join than had she taken Kiseena aside and told of the first job of many. At the opposite corner of Balmora lived and worked a high elf by the name of Nalcarya of White Haven. The store was a house of alchemy, and had a great many apparatus and ingredient for the seasoned mage. The last time Sugar-Lips had been in Nalcarya's shop, she had detected the scent of diamonds. It was a diamond that Kiseena was asked to retrieve.
Nalcarya's alchemist shop was in the more expensive side of Balmora. It was because of this that the store was small and cramped, and because of this that one of the Balmora city guards stood watch in a corner. Thankfully for Kiseena, heavy armor does wonders for protection but does little to allow one to see all goings-on in the area. It was a simple task to enter into conversation with the mer, talk openly of a want to learn alchemy, and how the mortar and pestle on display was so lovely.. and to palm a diamond while the attention of all were on something quite different.
Yes, the diamond rest snugly in a pouch at Kiseena's waist while the conversation continued another few minutes. And then, just as suddenly, "pressing matters were at hand" that forced Kiseena to bid Nalcarya farewell. By now the clouds had returned or new clouds had arrived. The rain had begun falling once again. Habasi had been waiting for word of the task, but was quite surprised to see Kiseena returning with such haste and without city guards close at this one's heels.
The rest of the evening and long into the night were spent reveling in the day's sneaky acts with Sugar-Lips Habasi and her compatriots. Much booze was drank, many songs sang and dances danced. Kiseena was even promoted from "Toad" to "Wet Ear" in the guild of thieves of Balmora by an adorably drunk Habasi before the lot of us fell asleep on the hard tables of the South Wall's underground bar.
When Kiseena awoke the next morning, this one's left ear refused to stay pointing in the correct direction for several hours. Habasi, who was in a much less jovial mood on waking up from a night of merrymaking, was still pleased to see this one. She told Kiseena of her next task. One of the local nobles of Balmora had a home called Nerano Manor. The lower doors of this manor house are rarely locked, but the upper doors are locked and it is behind these locks that the more interesting aspects of the house are located. Ondres Nerano, the noble himself, naturally has a key. But so too does Sovor Trandel, servant to Nerano.
Sovor is a frequent face at one of the higher-scale clubs of Balmora, the Council Club by the silt-bug port. It is here that Kiseena will go once this one has bathed and found somewhere to stow the armor and weapons that just do not speak the words "high-class."

In actuality, it is very hard to steal any diamonds from Nalcarya, as they're right next to her and the store is pretty brightly lit. If you're lucky you might find one upstairs, but generally I just buy one from her.
ReplyDeleteNot very "thief-like," but it still gets the job done.
